Tuesday on a Monday

I thought that was a brilliant title first off. Today (Monday) I had a shoot with Tuesday, Amber Tuesday to be exact. I've worked with her before and am always impressed by her array of differing hair colour, very varied!

Here are a few snippets of some of the final edited images from the shoot.

Thank you Amber.

The Dunes : Event On The Beach

It was last week that I actually attended the event and through my own time management this is the first opportunity I've had to upload the details of it. It was the 3rd (i think) event arranged by A.P. Imagery (arranger of the MODO shoot in my previous entries), located down at Formby Point, gathered a mix of photographers and models for a fashion/swimwear group photo-shoot, i think it went quite smoothly even if it was for the ever increasing heat (i ended up with a sunburnt face).

The event since has given myself and Miss Ingwer and Owen Jones of Frotography the idea to create our own group project but focusing on alternative models (goth / horror / grunge / steampunk etc.,) so we are now on the search for suitable models and photographers and Make-Up Artists with a comprehensive background in such genres, instead of it being a free-for-all and everyone wanting to attend we will invite suited models and photographers to our event, which will hopefully take place in September or October, just need to source a location which will cater for 20+ people and offers a variety of work spaces (mostly indoors) suggestions welcome!

Anyway here are a selection of images from the beach event which introduces some new modelling talent notably Becky Wright and Louisa Latham.

Thank you again to all that I worked with, professional as ever (most of you! ;-p)....

Modo Event in Liverpool

Well that was a busy old day. I attended a photography event in Liverpool @ Modo nightclub yesterday, it was like a group shoot/networking day and went very well. After a slow start with getting models prepared and working out a shooting routine with the other photographers then went very smoothly. Personally I think I got to work with 9 different models, a real good range of muses for me to experiment, the lighting in the nightclub was minimal, but thats to be expected in such a location but still Im happy with the results and seemingly most of the models i worked with are too!

Heres a few examples of the images from yesterdays event.... (and some potential talent to watch out for)

      Bethany Jay Cannell

There were a lot of other models and artists there that i should give a big 'shout out'  too as everyone contributed to make it a great event...

Gabrielle Louise - Model
Sarah Davies - Model
Liv Rylance - Model
Miss Ingwer - Model
Mark Cunningham - Model
Tanyia Forshaw - Model
Cheryl Smith - Model

Cupids Bow - Make Up Artist
Helen McBride - Make Up Artist

....and all the other models and photographers were a pleasure to meet, I've put a few links on next for the other photographers at the event as they all produced fantastic work on the day and Im looking forward to seeing them again at the next event in August....

There are a few more but i don't think i have the links at the moment to their pages (sorry for missing anyone out, feel free to shout at me). Anyway, its given me quite a few more contacts in the area and its nice to put a person to the profile when you read about someone online then its much more revealing actually talking to them and networking so well done to Amy of A.P. Imagery for arranging such a great day.

Next up is the A.P. Imagery 3rd Event Beach shoot which is in the throws of being arranged at Crosby Beach, open to all Photographers / Models / Make Up Artists etc., which is mid August, i think everyones getting quite excited about it already, which is nice. I think after working with the models and photographers most of them have built a good rapport with each other so are more comfortable to try new things and different types of images. I've done thousands of photo shoots over the years and I can personally vouch that with experience comes comfort - comfort to talk and make people feel relaxed in a new crowd (apologies if i did just talk a lot during anyones shoot - its what I'm known for ALOT, but i do it because I'm comfortable around you and the group,  and i want everyone else just to enjoy themselves).

Ok, I've got chinchillas to attend to. Goodnight.

Utter Revamp

A revamp and lick of paint to the website gave it a fresher look, more appealing, i wonder if it will attract more visitors. I've slightly modified the branding, not changed it too much but more white instead of black. I thought black was too oppressive and heavy, most photography sites seem to opt with white, and though im not the kinda person to follow the flock, they must have some logic behind it if most are doing it, and they look good!! :-) let me know what you think, where i can add or remove things? fresh eyes and all, its now 1:30am my eyes are tired.

Ode To Joy

I thought the title would be somewhat appropriate as Im going to see Bright Eyes tomorrow, they are one of my BIG 5 i need to see before i die. They would be the 2nd out of 5, I've already seen Silverchair and still left is Bush, Dashboard Confessionals and Nirvana, *ahem* unlikely - i know (please don't try and say the Foo Fighters are a good substitute - they ain't).

Anyway, I have Cara booked for a shoot now for Friday - we are doing an 'Ode to Hardy' shoot - its a session inspired by the works of Rosie Hardy, one particular image has sparked my willingness to do this....

DOWN TO EARTH - Rosie Hardy

It has a beautiful story behind it, check her out www.rosiehardy.com

I know I've changed my mast head too, i thought the previous one looked really harsh and offensive to initial readers, i hope the change suits all, plus its a little ode (theres that word again) to my two chinchillas Murray and Lewis....

(Right: Murray - always eating)
(Left: Lewis - shy)

They are my little monsters and they are 'The Chinchilla'. Ok well ill let you know how i get on with Cara after friday's shoot fingers crossed it all goes well!

Video 'RUN'

Forget to say about the 'fashion' film I made a while ago with the help of Miss Ingwer, you can watch it on YOUTUBE. It was a spur of the moment thing really during one our latest projects but i've kinda got obsessed with filming again since, so don't be surprised if I make more.

At Least Its Still Online

Phew, the blogs still alive, no deletion, no merrrrcccyy! I've been spending today coming up with new concepts for upcoming projects that I'm going to undertake over the next few months, I think some of it takes inspiration from other photographers such as Rosie Hardy, Steve Skafte and Terra Kate. I really admire the simple images they create using extremely limited props and outfits, they are the most basic type of image (meant nicely) and incorporate the easiest locations (the great outdoors). Im surrounded by it out here, there is so much countryside and forest near me and i don't use it enough, so today I'm recruiting a bank of models who are going to be a part of these projects and ill eventually assign each one to a particular shoot and the results will be posted over the next few months. I've put a link on here so you can have a look at the ideas that are coming to mind.....

Inspirations for Conceptual Shoots

Anyhow I'll blog again soon.

New Beginnings

Its with a warm welcome I greet you to my new blog (it is actually the third attempt at creating but i must have had written some important posts as the last two were deleted by blogger), so enjoy this - it may not be around forever.

As Im sure everything around you has told you by now, Im SJ and Im a photographer. I tend to specialise more in modelling portfolios and conceptual portraiture, which includes a bit of graphic illustration when i can be bothered but mostly i just enjoy creating images from any medium, except drawing - i cant.

This is my blog to keep up to date with what Im doing, showing you images from recent shoots or designs from current projects and things to come. I'll leave you with my favourite photograph(s) from the past few weeks shooting.....

'The model is Miss Ingwer and I work a lot with her so there'll be more of her to come in the next few posts, she's a fantastic amateur model based in North Wales'

I'll write again soon.
